Brode
Macramie
Sheer woven fabric, lightly or heavily embroidered
with various patterns (from geometrical, stripes
to floral) designed to present a certain amount
of light penetration while offering enough cover
to preserve privacy. Provides more coverage and
glamour than voil. The embroidery is based on the
repetition of a particular motif (in general floral
or geometrical) in a three dimensional fashion.
These motifs end up sitting on the voile rather
than being part of it, giving a very original fantasy
look to the daring decorator.
The base is densely embroidered with colored textured
polyester yarn, thus forming a larger layer of embroidery
than the voile. Popular colors are beige, gold,
white, and metallic. Less popular are light brown
and burgundy. Typically, the embroidered layer is
placed on the bottom edge as it is usually the most
visible part, and the main part in determining the
style of the curtain.
